This post covers how to use Microsoft Lync on a Windows computer.

  • Lync Account
  • Lync for Windows
NOTE: If Microsoft Office 2010 is installed on your computer, you will be using Lync 2010. If Microsoft Office 2013 is installed, you will be using Lync 2013.

Steps to Change Your Profile Picture

  1. Click the profile picture beside your name.

  2. In the Lync-Option dialog box:
    1. Select either:
      - Do not show my picture
      - Default Corporate picture
      - Show picture from a web address
    2. Click OK.

  3. Click the drop down menu and select your location.

  4. Click the drop down menu and type in your status.

Steps to Add Contacts to Microsoft Lync

  1. In the Microsoft Lync window:
    1. Type in the name of your desired contact
    2. Select the Plus Sign
    3. Select your desired group

Steps to Create a New Group

  1. Right click Contact List and select Create New Group.

  2. Type the Group Name and then click Enter.

Steps to Schedule a Meeting

  1. Right click the user you wish to schedule a meeting with and select Schedule a Meeting.

  2. In the Meeting dialog box:
    1. Enter the meeting’s subject in the Subject field
    2. Enter the location of the meeting in the Location field
    3. Select the Date and Time
    4. Click Send

Steps to Add Contacts to Microsoft Lync

  1. In the Microsoft Lync window:
    1. Type in the name of your desired contact
    2. Right Click the contact
    3. Click Add to contact list (You can choose a desired group).

Steps to Create a New Group

  1. Right click Contact List and select Create New Group.

Steps to Schedule a Meeting

  1. Right click the user you wish to schedule a meeting with and select Schedule a Meeting.

  2. In the Meeting dialog box:
    1. Enter the meeting’s subject in the Subject field
    2. Enter the location of the meeting in the Location field
    3. Select the Date and Time
    4. Click Send

Using Lync in Web Access

  1. To Chat with your contacts, Double-click your contact and click Chat

  2. To Add a Contact, click Find Someone in the upper right corner and enter the contacts name. Then press enter or click the contact.

Using Lync outside the university network

If you are using Lync from a location outside the university network, you can use the Virtual Private Network (VPN) to communicate with colleagues from off-campus.

NOTE: If you use the VPN, you should start Lync first, and then start the VPN
